Water Heater Replacement and Installation
Fred Ford, owner of A2Z Water Heaters always says, “Who you hire to install your water heater is even more important than the brand of water heater itself.” And why is that? The quality of the installation can affect many things including your energy costs, your water flow, and your water pressure. It can even affect your toilets. Water heaters, when improperly installed, can be very dangerous. Protect your water heater, your home, and your loved ones with proper installation from A2Z.
A2Z takes pride in being able to change out most water heaters right away when providing the estimate saving you time. Don’t feel that our work is done hastily, however. Quite the contrary. A2Z will explain the entire installation process both before and after the work is done so you can understand the procedure and have confidence that it was done right.
A2Z ALWAYS acquires a building permit for all water heater replacements. Building permits are based on the current California building codes. These codes are in place to protect you, your family, your pets, and your property. The evidence of a building permit is often necessary in order to obtain financing from lending agencies. In some cases, fire and liability insurance damages may not be paid when improvements do not meet regulations. A water heater replacement is an improvement. Never hire a contractor that tells you a permit is not required. It is always legally required.
A2Z only uses quality parts when replacing and installing your new water heater including the following:
● Larger diameter water lines to help with water flow and pressure.
● Larger diameter gas lines for better gas flow (especially on larger water heaters).
● Thicker and higher quality insulation for water lines.
● Using fittings to route the flexible water lines away from the exhaust in order to maximize how much insulation we install on these flex lines, saving you energy consumption costs.
● The installation of wood behind the water heater to protect the sheetrock from busting during an earthquake.
● Replacing gate valves with ball valves. Gate valves are unreliable and prone to leak, whereas ball valves are dependable.
● The installation of a pan under every water heater, even if the codes do not require it. It’s safer.
● Additional plumbing to run a drain line from the pan.
● Replacing any parts that could go bad during the life of the new water heater with new parts that are designed to last the life of your water heater.
In addition to quality installation and service, your dog(s) will love us because we love dogs! We usually carry treats to share and are happy to love and play with your dogs.

5. Electric Tank Water Heaters
Electric Tank Water Heaters
Electric tank water heaters use electricity to heat the water, and they have many advantages over gas tank water heaters. They are a much simpler design because they have fewer parts. They are also safer because they do not produce carbon monoxide gas. Because of that, they do not require air ventilation. Electric tank water heaters are particularly nice if your water heater is inside of your home, as they are the quietest units around. In addition, electric water heaters usually have a longer life expectancy than a gas-run water heater.
There are two major disadvantages to an electric tank water heater. 1) Electric water heaters are not very energy efficient, and 2) the hot water inside the tank takes longer to replenish.
Are you considering replacing your worn-out water heater? Call Fred Ford, the owner of A2Z Water Heaters at (916) 402-9006 today. He will personally answer the phone, take you step-by-step through the installation process, explain every detail, and provide an accurate estimate on how much your new water heater, including the installation cost, will be. He will also provide excellent service after the sale if you should ever have any questions about your new system. With our five-star Google rating to back us up and our accredited membership with the Better Business Bureau, you can’t go wrong with A2Z Water Heaters. We serve Sacramento, Elk Grove, Rancho Cordova, Folsom, Wilton, and Galt in California as well as the surrounding areas. We are here to serve YOU.
6. Gas Tank Water Heaters
Gas Tank Water Heaters
Gas tank water heaters are not all the same. Some use natural gas while others use propane gas. What’s the difference? The type of gas a water heater uses is primarily based on location. Natural gas is mostly used in urban areas that have gas utilities while propane is more common in rural areas.
Gas tank water heaters use gas to heat the water, and they have many advantages over electric water heaters. They are the most energy efficient with the quickest recovery rate on the amount of hot water that can be produced in a specified amount of time. Another advantage is that most gas water heaters still work even if you lose power.
There are, of course, disadvantages as well. They are more complicated to install and operate than an all-electric water heater. They must also be properly vented because they can cause carbon monoxide poisoning.
When choosing a gas tank water heater, it is critical that you hire an expert installer who really knows what they are doing. While they are mostly safe when installed and used correctly, they can also be dangerous, and those dangers cannot be taken lightly. A gas tank water heater, if it has a gas leak, can cause carbon monoxide poisoning. It is important when installing this type of water heater, as it is when you have any gas appliances, to have carbon monoxide detectors installed in your home. Gas tank water heaters also pose a higher fire risk than electric tank water heaters and, in some cases, dust build-up can cause the unit to experience problems.
If you are considering replacing your current water heater and live in the Sacramento Area, call A2Z Water Heaters today at (916) 402-9006. The owner of A2Z, Fred Ford, will personally answer your call and give you his personal attention. He will make sure you understand the installation process as well as the proper use of your new gas tank water heater, and if you should ever have any additional concerns or questions about your water heater after it’s installed, Fred will always be ready to take your call.
7. Licensed Plumber & Contractor
Who’s Best for Your Water Heater Replacement?
You (the homeowner), a handyman, a licensed plumber, or a general building contractor?
● You, The Homeowner: Can you legally install a water heater yourself? Of course it’s possible and it’s legal, but you must be up-to-date on current building codes. You will need to pull your own permit, and you will have to personally accept the responsibility of your own work when your work is inspected by the building inspector.
● A Handyman: It is illegal for a handyman to install a water heater unless that handyman is the homeowner of the house where it is being installed. A handyman cannot legally pull a permit; therefore, it is illegal for a handyman to install a water heater.
● A Licensed Plumber: This is an excellent option assuming the plumber knows the current building codes and is experienced at installing water heaters. The plumber would pull the permit for you and they would accept the responsibility of their work. They do have a limitation, though, in that they can only do plumbing.
● General Building Contractor: A general building contractor can do anything a plumber can and much more. They can repair termite damage as well as water damage to sheetrock, insulation and boards. They can also mud, tape, texture, and paint. A general contractor … especially one who specializes in water heater installations… is the best person to hire.
Fred Ford, owner of A2Z Water Heaters, is both a licensed plumber as well as a licensed general contractor (License #896708) so you can’t go wrong. Call Fred today at (916) 402-9006. He will give you an accurate estimate of the total cost (parts & labor) to replace your water heater, explain exactly what he will do during the replacement process, and answer any questions you have, both before and after the sale. Fred is someone you can depend on to do the job right at a fair price. A2Z serves the areas of Elk Grove and Sacramento, California as well as much of the surrounding areas.
7. Single-Family Homes
From Fred Ford, Owner of A2Z Water Heaters, About Installing Water Heaters in Single Family Homes
As a general building contractor, I am licensed to build both residential and commercial buildings, but I have chosen to focus my attention completely on single family homes and mobile homes/manufactured housing. To me, life is about the relationships that I establish with people, and it is my passion to help people and make sure that they are safe. Water heaters can be very dangerous when they are improperly installed. I want to install your water heater properly to keep you, your family, and your pets safe.
The location of the water heater within your home will determine the building requirements for that water heater. Water heaters can be located in attics, on second stories, in an outside or inside closet, in a basement area, or inside the garage. There are even water heaters that are accessed through the garage but are actually inside the home. Make certain that you hire a contractor who knows the codes for your particular circumstance, and, remember: all water heater installations, regardless of where it is located, require a permit. If you are told otherwise, do not hire that person or company.
If you have any questions at all about replacing, installing or repairing your old water heater, call me at (916) 402-9006. I do not have a receptionist; I answer all my own calls, and I will take the time necessary to explain the entire installation process to you, give you an exact quote before work is done, and make sure you understand how to operate your new water heater. Once the work is completed, if you should ever have any questions at all, just call me back, and I’ll discuss your water heater with you. I am here to answer your questions.
8. Mobile Homes
From Fred Ford, Owner of A2Z Water Heaters, About Installing Water Heaters in Manufactured Housing
Fact: most plumbers will not install water heaters in mobile homes; I, however, love the challenge that it presents.
The rules and regulations for installing a water heater in a mobile home, also known as manufactured housing, are a lot different than single family houses, so make sure you hire a plumber or contractor who knows the difference. One difference is that, instead of obtaining a permit from the city or county, for a mobile home, you must acquire the permit from the Federal Government. To install a water heater in a mobile home/manufactured home, permits are handled by HCD (Housing Community Development), which is a division of HUD.
There are also many differences in the water heater selection and installation process with mobile homes. The biggest difference is that there is much less space in which to install a water heater, and oftentimes, pipes must be removed before you can remove the water heater. Due to that, labor is more intensive, and the installation may cost more for a mobile home/manufactured house water heater replacement.
There are water heaters specifically designed for mobile homes, but contrary to popular belief, you are not necessarily limited to using those water heaters. Sometimes, a single-family home water heater makes sense. It depends on a number of factors. I will evaluate all of those factors and present options to you.
If you have a mobile home or live in manufactured housing, call me at (916) 402-9006. I’ll talk to you on the phone – I answer all my own calls – and we can discuss your water heater needs over the phone. I will then come out, take measurements, and determine what available water heaters might fit your needs. From there, I’ll give you an exact estimate for replacing your water heater and explain exactly how I’m going to replace your existing unit. I will then teach you how to operate and care for your new system. I look forward to helping you.
