It happens to everyone at one time or another: your vehicle suffers body damage. Auto body repairs are very expensive, and payment is usually required at the time of the repair. Will auto insurance cover needed repairs? It depends on the type of coverage you have. DG Collision Center will work with insurance companies, when possible, to get you back on the road. Here is a rundown on the most popular types of coverage and whether they will cover auto body repairs.
Extended Warranty and Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI)
Extended Warranties on newer cars and mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI) are probably the two most popular types of insurance that people get to cover repairs, but the repairs they cover are exclusively mechanical, and they do not cover all mechanical repairs. Repairs that are considered routine, such as tires and oil changes, remain the responsibility of the car owner. It will not help with auto body repairs at all.
Liability Insurance
Liability insurance is required in almost every state and is designed to help the other party when an accident is your fault. The problem is that, even though it is required, many drivers to not carry this basic insurance. If you are in an accident and it isn’t your fault, you could be left high and dry if the other driver is uninsured.
Collision Insurance
Collision insurance is generally not required for drivers to have except when they are financing or leasing a vehicle. Collision insurance is designed to repair or replace a vehicle after an accident, regardless of who is deemed at fault. With the number of uninsured drivers on the road and the high expense to repair a vehicle, it is a must-have these days.
Comprehensive Insurance
Another insurance that covers repairs is comprehensive insurance, which is, again, not required unless you are leasing or financing. Comprehensive insurance covers damages that occur to a vehicle that are not caused by an accident. These reasons include theft, vandalism, falling limbs, and damage caused by animals. If you cannot afford the cost of repairing or replacing your vehicle should something unexpected occur, comprehensive insurance will help with those repairs, albeit it is an extra expense at the time.
